Curious about shirasu? Also known as whitebait in English, shirasu are the tiny offspring of fish such as sardines and anchovies. These minuscule creatures, with their opalescent white hue, often serve as a garnish or topping for numerous Japanese culinary delights, most notably adorning bowls of rice. Unlike their fully dried counterparts, chirimen (baby sardines), shirasu undergo only partial drying, resulting in a softer texture. These delicate morsels add a delightful touch to a plain bowl of rice and are a staple in Japanese cuisine.

However, there's an intriguing twist to these diminutive delicacies. Due to the large-scale harvesting of shirasu, on rare occasions, other tiny deep-sea denizens inadvertently join the mix. Harmless but captivating nonetheless, you might stumble upon a miniature squid, baby shrimp, or tiny fish nestled among the shirasu. This seek-and-find excitement has captured the imagination of both children and adults alike, akin to an underwater version of a scavenger hunt.

How to Play:

• Sift through the shirasu using your fingers to search for hidden creatures. Tap on one to add it to your collection.
• Press the pause button at the top right corner to view your collection.
• Hit the Twitter button to share the number of samples you've accumulated for a selected specimen.
• Tap the magnifying glass at the top left corner for a hint. Hints regenerate every 10 minutes.
• Your progress is automatically saved each time you press the pause button.
